Located in sunny Takaka in New Zealand's stunning Golden Bay, Roots Bar was built with a vision of providing an alternative space where locals and travellers can enjoy a great music culture through a great sound system, eat fantastic food, enjoy the high vibes and energy that the outside open fire brings to the bar, and of course indulge in tasting some NZ medal winning craft beers that the bar has on tap.

Roots Bar is owned and operated by owner
Holly Osmond -  with over a decade of
 hospitality experience in Oz and NZ.

The atmosphere and energy is always warm and inviting in the Roots Bar,
whether it’s the candle light, the fire light and warmth, the rustic furniture,
the smooth quality sounds or the interesting people you always seem to meet.

Roots Bar free WiFi means travellers, backpackers and businesspeople
can enjoy relaxing in the early evening with a coffee, wine or beer and
check emails or cruise the web in the bar.

Roots Bar – the GOOD people place

The menu grew from Holly and her hired kitchen guns vision and belief in conscious eating – a focus on wild, free farmed meats and local/regional produce.  With a few awesome chefs she has set up the tastiest menu in town.  A selection of smaller dishes and share plates & an epic burger menu to suit everyone.

With 12 different beers and ciders on tap, Spring n Fern, Hop Federation and a rotating local craft brewers The Mussel Inn and Townshends. All the beer is hand crafted in the Tasman region.

With a big selection of regional wines, spirits and locally made liqueurs,
they provide a wide variety of beverages.

Non-alcoholic drinks range from House made kombucha, naturally brewed ginger beer to herbal teas
and Fair Trade locally roasted TONIC coffee.

The bar provides a venue for top quality
New Zealand, and occasionally international acts. The venue is small and intimate, however – the quality sound system and atmosphere always leaves the guests with an awesome music experience.

Throughout the year we have great weekly entertainment from DJ’s to live acts.
